Care for Creation-Pope Leo Message

Aug 22
2 min read

As we get closer to the time when we celebrate Season of Creation, I thought I would share two things.

First is the following quote from Pope Leo on August 15, 2026:

"Today, we are witnessing many crises and much human suffering. At the same time, it seems that the disruption to the harmonious balance of creation is accelerating. These phenomena are not unrelated; they are a single plea for healing and peace arising from a wounded world."

There are regulations that were put in place to protect our environment which are being compromised or completely removed. These regulations include protecting forests, rivers, natural resources, etc. All in the name of profit.

The results of these actions will increase the loss to farmers being able to produce the foods necessary to sustain life.

A critical concern is the poisonous sprays that will be used on vegetation and inhaled by the animals. Chemicals that have been labeled hazardous by scientists based on years of research and study. But used for the sake of profit.

Another quote from Pope Leo:

“Although the challenges before us are enormous, God does not leave us without the means of healing and transformation. In place of the weapons of war, the God of peace grants us the strength to heal, to reconcile and to build a civilization of love. In this way, we are called to safeguard the many “ecosystems” entrusted to us: the ecosystems of creation, of human relationships and of the human heart itself.”

We must all do our share to ensure that our earthly home is, not just taken care of, but reverse as much of the harm as possible.

“Catholic social teaching is a central and essential element of our faith. Its roots are in the Hebrew prophets who announced God's special love for the poor and called God's people to a covenant of love and justice. It is a teaching founded on the life and words of Jesus Christ, who came "to bring glad tidings to the poor . . . liberty to captives . . . recovery of sight to the blind"(Lk 4:18-19), and who identified himself with "the least of these," the hungry and the stranger (cf. Mt 25:45). Catholic social teaching is built on a commitment to the poor. This commitment arises from our experiences of Christ in the eucharist.”
